4:05 am - Season conclusion

Went to Hunter yesterday. The snow was wet & mushy almost everywhere, especially on the easier slopes. Black slopes were better, especially the ones everyone was afraid of going on. There the snow was almost normal, even good.

All in all, it was a good season for me. I'm now more than comfortable on the black slopes and pretty confident on double black diamonds. Got my wife to fall in love with skiing too, and she's good at it!

How about you, what did you enjoy (or not) about this skiing season?

Can't wait for the winter to come again!

I've only been to Hunter, Windham, Shawney, and Camelback around New England. Do you know any other good skiing places around here? I'm not implying that these 4 are good... but hey...

7:49 pm - ski resorts open in the spring?

So, for various reasons, I'm probably going to be taking some time off from school, and I came up with the idea of becoming a ski bum - working at a ski resort, and spending the rest of my time skiing. However, it makes more sense for me to do this spring quarter than winter quarter, thus putting me right out of ski season.

Does anyone know of any ski resort pretty much anywhere (okay, U.S. is better) that is open year-round, or especially in the spring? I have googled and googled and come up with about nothing. Or, some are open year-round, but during non-winter months they host other activities, thus defeating my purpose of ski bumming. I'm specifically looking for an entry level job for the months of april, may, and june, but only those months. Does anyone know if this is possible?

5:41 pm - Tuckerman Ravine, NH: 04/16/08

This community has not seen much activity this season unfortunately. I have been remiss in posting some of my better trip reports as per previous seasons. Better late than never. Here is a report from Tuckerman Ravine this past Wednesday. This weekend the Inferno race is being held so it will be a traffic jam for sure and the busiest weekend of the year for the ravine. I’ll be heading over to Stowe and Mad River Glen to burn my last two vouchers over there as both mountains are closing this coming Sunday. About a half dozen ski areas will make it one more weekend beyond this one if any one is interested. After this weekend’s final lift serviced romps, I will be reporting in from Mount Washington most weekends with good weather through June and perhaps a few in July as the base depth up there is insane. Cheers!

9:49 pm - New Skis

So I learned how to ski last winter and fell in love with it. My parents decided that if I go skiing often over the next two years, it would be cheaper to buy me skis than for me to constantly rent them. Needless to say, I'm pumped. When I went skiing with them today for the first time, I had them waxed. How often does this need to be done? Do I have to get this done a few times a season? I got them waxed at the ski resort, but is it possible for me to do this at home?

Thanks in advance =)

7:48 pm - here's hoping

From the looks of it this community isn't too active anymore. Well I haven't skied in about 5 years, and back then I rented boots and all the other equipment. I have my first opportunity to ski in about ten days. YAY!

I still had some bibbed snow pants I wore sledding--hardly easy to move in/designed for skiing. I'm mostly curious about how to pick new gear. I'd like to spend no more than $100 on the pants. But don't know what to look for in terms of insulation and other features. I'm also thinking about goggles... I'm pretty small so I think I'll have to hit the kids section for that. I still have a parka that works quite well.

Any tips on shopping would be great

1:04 am - Family Ski Trip

My wife, daughter and I will be in Boston for New Years' weekend and I'm looking for someplace to take us skiing afterwards. I'm considering Okemo, Attitash, Loon, Waterville Valley, Sunday River and Sugarbush. Those of you familiar with these areas, how is the beginner/intermediate terrain, slopeside lodging and prices? Any recommendations? Don't want to go too far from Boston (no more than about 3 hours) assuming we'll have to go back there or to Providence to fly home.
